Started in 2005 by members of the Mid-America Cobra Club (MACC), in conjunction with the Kansas City International Raceway (KCIR), the Midwest Ford Fest has become one of the fastest growing all-Ford events in the region  - and the only one that welcomes both Ford-powered and Ford-bodied cars and trucks.

The event itself is truly a "grassroots" effort, with the organization, promotion, and all aspects of the event coordination being handled by volunteer members of the MACC and a few of the staff at KCIR. There are no high-dollar national promoters here. Just a bunch of true-blue Ford fanatics looking to put on a great event for other folks who share the passion for FoMoCo products!

The event encompasses three components - a drag race, a car show, and a swap meet.

The 2nd Annual official reunion of all years and models of Twister Special Fords is scheduled to be held at the 4th Annual Midwest Ford Fest. What makes this gathering so unique is that not only is it the first time these cars are being brought back together, but that exactly 40 years later they're coming back to the very place that they made their debut to the world - the Kansas City International Raceway!

From www.TwisterSpecialRegistry.com, here's the story:

On Friday, November 7, 1969, Kansas City Sales District dealers participated in a special promotion held at the Kansas City International Raceway(KCIR) called “Total Performance Day.”  Featured attractions were special appearances by the Ford Drag Team, Ford’s Total Performance Show and Bob Tasca’s High Performance Show. These teams were a traveling caravan touring the country promoting Ford’s high performance cars and after market muscle parts. Morning seminars were held for the dealers, their sales, parts and service personnel.  The afternoon brought exhibitions by the Drag Teams and then a chance for participants to try their luck on the road race course or the quarter mile. Trophies were presented to the winners in each of the district’s 13 sales zones. Participation certificates were furnished all who dared a shot at the clock on the road course or quarter mile..

Around 4:00 P.M., after a full day of awesome high performance demonstrations the dealers were taken to an area containing the specially prepared, high performance, Twister Specials. Before their eyes, awaiting the drive home or shipment to their dealerships, were 96  Mach 1’s and 90 Torino Cobra’s. To a Mustang and Ford enthusiast, what a beautiful sight that must have been.

Terry Fritts, "The World's Foremost Twister Special Authority", has been instrumental in the coordination of the reunion, as has been Noel Jennings, the marketing director for R&A Motorsports (who is creating the new late-model Twister Specials). The Mid-America Cobra Club expresses our sincere thanks to both of them.

If you own one of the original 1970, 1985, or 2008 Twister Special Fords, we would love to see you and your car(s) at this reunion! Please note that this is open to original cars only - no clones will be permitted in the special reunion area.

There may be some special registration information that you will need to complete before showing up at the event. So please contact Noel Jennings either via email or the R&A Motorsports website: www.r-amotorsports.com.
